WEDEKIND „The End Of My Heartbeat“ (Defiance Recs.) LP 5,- €
Wedekind's mixture of drums, guitars and keyboards (no bass to be found here!) draws beautifully melancholic pictures. Yes, they are dark but true beauty often lies in the shadows. But don´t confuse their dark imagery with negativity. That is one thing Wedekind is not - negative. Some of their songs have enough pop, they could easily find their way to a dance floor. Singer/ guitarist Rainer Prokop disagrees, "I don't think that this is going to happen. We tried to party with Radiohead records once and it just doesn't work. And I'd feel really uncomfortable handing out blueprints on how to listen to our music - people should get out of it what they can." There were bands before that had that certain dark, yet erotic undertone. Iggy Pop. Television. Joy Division. The Cure. Wedekind follows in that tradition. Wedekind's distinctive sound combines elements of Post-Hardcore, Bitpop, New Wave and Emo. In Wedekind´s native Austria, the band has attained a level of notoriaty reached by few of their peers, yet they remain unfazed by thier success and refuse to kiss anyone's ass.

U.K. thrashers Dumbstruck are going on the loose again! For what it´s worth,the band had two members of the allmighty Ripcord in their ranks at the time this was recorded. Most of the time they still stick to the classic late 70ies U.K. thrash sound. Compared to their earlier releases they throw in a massive dose of old swedish HC ala Anticimex as well.With a way better production than on the 12“,these 3 songs will mash your brain indeed!Ah,yeah it´s a shame the band broke up! In case you should consider to flip this record over at all,you will experience that Berlins´ Y are still going somewhat strong after 8 years of constant touring and releasing quite a few records on the way. Don´t ask me what the music sounds like.Uhhmm maybe a bit like Nasum playing Pink Flamingos covers, maybe like Johnny Cash on the Burning Spirit wagon...or even better: Imagine Saddam Hussein doing the vocals for an unfinnished, 5 year old Infest LP! That would come pretty close perhaps!

The Zoli Band is formed by 3 members of Ignite. The singing part is for Zoltan Teglas. Kevin Kilkenny plays the guitar and Brett Rasmussen take care for the bass. The man on the drums is Mark Hine. The Zoli Band don't brings hardcore, but they produce beautiful alternative music... And they have obvious influences from great rock bands such as U2, Soundgarden and The Foo Fighters. On their self-produced full length cd you can hear a wide spread array of tunes ranging from super-catchy, rocking ones that get your blood moving to simple beautiful acoustic numbers often enhanced by layers of violins and cellos. The Zoli Band brings songs which are written for Ignite, but because they don't fit on a hardcore album, they started a new group: The Zoli Band...Through this way they can show their musical ability outside Ignite. And Zoli can use his wonderful voice on a way, that everyone's heart touch... I'm sure you would agree with me if you heard this pearl of music... So start loving The Zoli Band!!!
